Friends of Croesor was established in 1998 as a social organization to improve the culture, economy and environment of Cwm Croesor and the Llanfrothen area.

In 2000 a second-hand shop, Siop Mela, was opened in Penrhyndeudraeth, in order to raise money for local causes and to support the organisation.

In 2001 the Bryn Gelynnen farm buildings were bought in order to adapt them for community use. By 2007 Caffi Croesor and the toilets had been opened and further on in 2008 the Gallery was opened. By now, the buildings form a vibrant community hub within our small rural village, called Hwb Croesor. Hwb Croesor includes a cafe, art gallery, hall, community garden, local cider business Tirlais and a brand new sauna, Sawna Gardd.

Many community events take place here with the help of volunteers, who also keep the community garden in order and coordinate fundraising events. Friends of Croesor are very dependent on volunteers to enable us to maintain our community centre, and our opportunities for income are limited.

Between 2024-2025 alone, we managed to secure over £100,000 through grant funding, which all went back into the local economy through community events, projects, developments to the buildings and land around Hwb Croesor and our growth as a social enterprise.

Friends of Croesor are proud to collaborate with other initiatives in the area such as Menter y Ring, Plas Brondanw, Y Dref Werdd, Siop Mela, Cwmni Bro Ffestiniog, Deudraeth Cyf and Llanfrothen Council.
